What brand and how do you like to rig it?

um, I do believe the good ol DOA under a popping cork is about as proven as it gets.

I like to tandem rig the DOAs under an old bayside popper, one deeper than the other by at least 12"

These are also very effective freelined in a current.

I think the DOAs are the most realistic looking shrimp out there...add a little Carolina Lunker Sauce in Skrimp flavor and you're in bidness.

then there are shrimp flies but that's a whole 'nother topic.

I like the DOA (natural colors) under a popping float when the water is clear, or fairly clear.
Especially going after schoolies in shallow water.
And will use the brighter colors (chartuese) in dark or stained water.
They are also VERY effective with a light presentation freelined (just like live) when the water is clear.
For both of these situations I just use the 1/4 ounce lead inserts they come with.

In off color (or rough) water I like the Gulp Shrimp (natural & new penny) fished with a 1/4 or 1/8 oz jighead. I just drag it along the bottom with occasional 'pops'.
Everything seems to eat 'em

Don't forget the bayou billy, powerbait shrimp, creme shrimp, halo shrimp, and BPS brand shiner shrimp. I am sure there are more out there but thats all I could come up with.

I have never used any of the ones I mentioned just listed.

I have used a DOA shrimp everyway I can fish one alive. I haved used them carolina rigged, popping cork, freelined, and slip corked. Yes I said slip corked very good presention when drifting in fast current. Actually the slip cork with a DOA can be very productive in the cooler months in deeper channel areas.

The carolina rigged DOA also works great in swift current. The largest sheephead I have ever caught was caught using this method.

The popping cork and freeline have already been explained.

Tried everything everyone has already mentioned. DOA is my go to. I have followed Bobby A's advice and replaced normal DOA hook and weight with the bayou buck "shimpaler". http://www.bayoubucklures.com/speckled- ... ures-4.htm
great hook and never slips. They sell great popping corks too. "pogeaux pop No.2" is the only one I have tried.
Going to have to try the carolina lunker sauce Gumbo suggested...

after seeing specks turn away from a suspending X-rap after following it for a short distance, i tried some of that stuff and it made a believer out of me... I like to put it on and let it dry onto the lure some. it soaks into soft plastics and to me it's cheaper to buy soft plastics that actually look good and use that stuff instead of buying gulps.

RFM....you've been saying for a while that you are gonna come down to do some wade fishing.... when that water temp hits 65 at the island, yo arse better be down there.

Does the Gulp skrimp really count as an imitation shrimp? It looks like a cat turd with antennae. :?

I always carry a rod ready to go with a popping cork & a clear DOA.
I have tried some of the other colors like smoke/chartreuse, but
nothing seems to work as well as the clear for me.

I made the mistake of nibbling off about 3/4" of a 4" one once to make it fit my jighead better. THAT wont happen again. :D
